Election & Religious Philosophies as Vice President Osibanjo Cheats Death

By Terhemba Osuji

If the videos online are to be believed, Vice President Osibanjo escaped death after the helicopter ferrying him to a campaign destination crash landed in a remote area in kogi State.

Along side relief at his survival are they comedic analogies of Nigerians pointing out that the people of Kogi, reputed for “medicine” and mystic practices and invocations, played a role in bringing down his craft, but alas Osibanjo’s juju was too strong for them, if you know and believe in those things, you know.

Not only was Osibanjo only just shaken and not even bloodied like his police escort despite the craft upturning on itself when it crashed. He went ahead to continue by road with his campaign of meeting and shaking hands with ordinary traders in markets. This is reportedly the second time he has survived a helicopter crash if various postings are to be believed.

How is it possible that everyone in his party survived when military trained dignitaries DIG Haruna and General Azazi met their untimely death via helicopter crashes. The gates of the afterlife refused to conveniently swallow Osibanjo into its bowels at the 11th hour of an election yet mysteriously ensnared former Governor Audu in that same Kogi, just as he was about to get re-elected, makes you wonder at the mysteries of the will of God and life that defy understanding.

Before this scare and According to reports circulating and not yet confirmed, President Buhari was rumored to have been poisoned and he spent many weeks in London in recovery.

Judging by the length of his stay to flush out the toxins from his body, it is a miracle he survived more so when you consider that many younger men and women half his age have succumbed to the cold hands of death when poisoned or for strange illnesses.

Where is Buhari, when taking into consideration that he is alleged to be older than his filed affidavits stated, getting all the energy to embark on a grueling campaign and participate in tricky question and answer sessions, that have elicited many senior moments from him to the delight of his many detractors.

During the civil war, he survived many ambushes by Biafra forces, he was not a ring leader of the 1983 coup, but was the only General the contender ring leaders could agree upon to be president and he was imported from Jos to takeover.

He was not killed when ousted from power, he endured house arrest longer than his reign thereafter wards. He lost his wife, buried a son and a daughter and is the last of two out of 11 siblings, he lost 3 three soul cherishing elections before victory and he has endured the terrible insults from Nnamdi Kanu.

Counterbalanced with a wealthy lawyer running mate who could have engaged in all manner of pursuits, but choose the extracurricular activity of God and preaching in his spare time whose prayers no doubt swayed Providence from taking his life in the aforementioned helicopter crash.

Spiritually aware voters should wonder what is saving these individuals and keeping them alive?

For me it has caused me to paraphrase a Facebook posting That has began to gain acceptance as an article of faith and it reads along with my juxtaposition insertions:

No matter how strong (your evidence, facts and choice negatives against Buhari and Osibanjo) you are, never fight who God is protecting.

The big question mark is whether God is really protecting Buhari and Osibanjo or whether one tends to focus on celebrities who are just ordinary human beings who are lucky to be alive just like everyone else. Only a fool thinks he is alive if not for divine providence.

Something to ponder and pray about in church today as you decide on which candidate to vote in two weeks.

Happy Sunday
