Economics - Another Useless Degree in Nigeria

To those studying Economics hoping for a banking career, please understand that With the increasing sophistication of electronic banking, transfer services, ATM’s and POS machines, the need for bankers will fall and there will be a decline in recruitment in that area. To be more concise, ECONOMICS is one of the growing number of useless courses if the curriculum is not quantitative based and focused on modeling outcomes and forecasting trends based on real time statistics and data.  Here are the jobs available to Economics graduates overseas: 1. Economist  2. Financial risk analyst 3. Data Analyst 4. Financial Planner 5. Accountant 6. Economic Researcher 7. Financial Consultant 8. Investment Analyst  9. Actuary 10. teaching 11. Public sector Based on this list, we can immediately eliminate 2,4,8,9, give some deferential award to 1,3,6 that in Nigeria all lead to 11 in policy roles, with the remaining extract from all defaulting to 10 or finally outside economics in the wo...

Re-Indoctrination Before Restructuring

Whenever you talk about poor governance, Nigerians always mention restructuring as the catch all panacea to fix all problems and issues. But very few Nigerians really know what type of restructuring is needed or how to secure this much needed restructuring in practice.  Many believe restructuring is about returning to the regional government system predating 1966, and tagging on a few new regions, while others wish to retain the federalist state structure and others wish for tribal governments for each of Nigeria nearly 360 indigenous tribes.  Others talk about super imposing a true federalist structures over whatever system but to ensure regional control of resources, most of that agitation seems to be driven by the south east and south-south zones sitting on crude oil reserves, followed by a devolution of items on the exclusive list to those new federalist units.  Others see restructuring as repeal of the 1999 constitution in its entirety and fashioning a new constituti...

SARS - A Response to Criminality

Remembering my stolen NWA tape back in the 90s and thieves stealing my treasured clothes during classes and surviving armed break-ins or waking up to discover that thieves have liberated electronics at home while we slept and many other episodes that caused untold pain and suffering has forced me to do a double take about some of the reasons for SARS brutality. The reality is that Nigerians have become highly criminalized right from the secondary school level, very few can be trusted and even friends will join in scamming you and act all innocent as you lament. These shocking incidents of stealing and criminality of Nigerians against each other has boiled tempers to the extreme action points were citizens take matters into their hands like the famous killing of the Aluu 4 youth by mob action. In fact you can’t have scrolled through Facebook for any number of months without coming across mob and jungle justice being inflicted on apprehended thieves who are set ablaze to a roaring crowd....

REASONS FOR OUR MASSIVE UNEMPLOYMENT

What Nigerians want comes from watching foreign TV and foreign media news channels and movies, Infact it is high time government banned these foreign influences. The truth is Nigeria has never had a history of providing jobs for youths or for the teaming mass of unemployed loitering the streets. Many of the jobs you see overseas have evolved over centuries, in the United States, delivering newspapers to front doors was the primary part time job of teenagers dating back centuries, so also postal and railway jobs and many other auxiliary jobs. In contrast Nigeria, does not have many of these century old private institutional legacy jobs nor can you even see the ads in newspapers to respond until the advent of cell phone and Facebook within the last few years but these jobs are for adults. The industrial revolution occurred in Europe over 200 years ago and sustained providing Europe with a laundry list of inter related cottage industries providing high skilled jobs requiring on the job tr...

Nigerian Youth - Please Apologize to Omoyele Sowere

Truthfully Sowore is someone Nigerian youth should be trying to emulate and his rise to prominence is not strange or mysterious. It is not his fault that his investigative reporting contributed in ending GEJ’s corrupt regime, it is Buhari who became the problem instead of the solution we voted for. You fence him from endsarsnow but you all forget he came back from America to lead the revolution (after meeting with Nnamdi Kanu) shortly after the rigged 2019 elections, but got arrested when the mood was very hot. He was detained for months by the DSS as the fury died down and was released months later and his passport may have been seized. Still he soldiered on to launch his delayed 2019 revolution ( Take it Back Movement ) in 2020 ( Sowore2019! TakeItBack Movement Lagos chapter ) that you have all forgotten, but it laid the groundwork for ENDSARSNOW. Typical of hypocrisy in high and low places, everyone will go to SAHARA REPORTERS later today, the one and only source of news in and abo...

Following up on Governor Ortom's Call for Gun Possession

In a recent submission to the Centre for values in leadership, in collaboration with the Governors forum, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, suggested that responsible Nigerians be allowed to carry AK47’s to reduce insecurity in the land. Coming from a state ravaged by ethnic cleansing and genocidal slaughter by suspected Fulani herdsmen his suggestion was not greeted by the strong applause it deserved especially from an advocate and government official so highly placed, perhaps because his call may have been perceived as a suggestion based on solving the background of violence in Benue State alone. In retrospect, it is time for Nigerians to not disregard his suggestion and to take the call for  gun possession by all Nigerians more seriously with the flight into worsening insecurity and endless slaughter and killings and burglaries and carjacking’s and kidnappings of Nigerians today, especially since the federal government cannot guarantee the safety of Nigerians, a core human rig...

PRESIDENT BUHARI ROMANCING SANCTIONS

Does Nigeria have an effective Government?  How is a rag tag organization of less than 5 years, and dubiously tagged a terrorist group, able to overcome that dangerous characterization and launch a diplomatic offensive to be able to convince foreign members of Congress and its diplomats right under the noses of serving ambassadors and attaches for different engagements, that Christians are being persecuted in Nigeria. How is that terrorist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, with a meagerly budget 85K monthly able to counter the billion-dollar budget of the Ministry of external affairs with board seats at various international organizations including the UN where a Nigerian serves as the deputy Secretary General. Only two things could have gained IPOB access to all powerful foreign policy makers, one would be that IPOB is being used to undermine the federal government of Nigeria, but then do they need an excuse, or perhaps the true frightening reality, that they can rightf...
