Who to Blame for Nigeria’s State of Insecurity

It is appalling to observe social media and see some of the most spiteful people who cannot even broker peace within their own families call serving Presidents all manner of names and insinuate all manner of conspiracies committed by these figure head leaders for all the insecurity and killings in the land. From examining the criminality trends, it is clear Nigerians are losing their morality on a daily basis as the drag the country from a civilized state to a Hobbesian state of nature where life is nasty, short and brutish after inheriting a peaceful country after the exit of former colonial masters, Britain.  Barely six years after Britain left, Nigeria descended into a bloody civil war after a section of the country, went on a state sanctioned reprisal killing spree and ethnic cleansing to avenge political murders committed by a few. The tragic events prior, during and after the war played havoc with individual moral codes and instituted moral laxity in the execution of state po...

The Ranching and Cow Colony Debate

Image
Nigeria is a confederation of nations amalgamated into Nigeria by former colonial master, Britain, without regard for cultural, historical, or linguistic harmony. It was a union that was tested six years after independence by a bloody civil war in which other confederating units banded together to restrain and stop the Igbo from succeeding from Nigeria for over 30 months.  Since then a United Nigeria supported by its confederating units have suppressed other uprisings from other confederating national units like the Ogoni and Boko Harem trying to break away from Nigeria. Nigeria inherited a regional parliamentary based system from the British which it has over the years tweaked to a presidential system of government with supreme authority vested at the center. No longer do regions or states control their mineral resources, all royalties and monies accrued from the sale of their mineral like oil are payable to the center and disbursed to the confederating units, previously regions, ...

TIME TO REVIVE OR UNDERSTAND AFRICAN TRADITIONAL RELIGION

Image
https://fb.watch/eG9aJsaLW6/ Nigeria is a complex country. This mob based on Native beliefs believes this man or wizard hypnotized this underage girl to keep her in his home.  The brought him before the Emir or emirate council and carried out some procedures the believe would release the supposed spell he cast on this girl. If the police were not there this wizard may have been set ablaze like many suspected witches and abiku children are in Africa. Although the court is Islamic their actions have nothing to do with religion but all about Native beliefs being weaved into and confused with the practice of Islam. Before the invasion of Islam Hausa animism or Bori was and perhaps still is the native religion of Hausa people and it deals with spirit possession. It is not difficult to believe that other tribes would reach the same conclusion and resort to the same de-hypnotized process. We typically lump the whole north as Hausa or Fulani but they have many other minority ethnicities wi...

Nigeria - A poor country despite Fiction

Just read a statement attributed to Osibanjo that "Nigeria is poor not because Nigeria is not endowed but due to massive stealing. This is the greatest misconception Nigerians believe about Nigeria.  Mr. VP, Nigeria is a poor third world country and getting poorer due to the spendthrift culture adopted by the government and grandiose expansionary goals based on a startling incomprehension of the net credits and debits bedeviling its treasury. All Nigerian governments tout the fallacy and propagate The scape goat of corruption as the reason for the poverty and poor infrastructure in the country. But what many fail to understand is that Even if there is no corruption, national revenue can never match the capital expenditure required to satisfy the growing appetite of Nigerians for luxury goods they do not produce or the need for greater spending to provide infrastructure for its teaming population that the think the can have from comparing themselves to Europe and America.  The ...

APC Restructuring Plan: Dead before Inception

Every man is allowed to change his opinion on issues as he grows and matures.  2010 was a lifetime ago before the fury of current IPOB Agitation which has put the issue of restructuring front and center even compelling the Vice President to promise to see it through, so truly it is time to restructure Nigeria.  But now comes the APC in its infinite wisdom appointing El-Rufai, a politician who has vacillated on national issues exposing his ethnic and regional leanings and bias in public statements attached herein, as chairman of the parties restructuring committee. One can only wonder why a national ruling party  In diverse Nigeria would choose a politician  lacking perceived neutrality and a lightening rod for accusations of manipulation especially at a time when it is rumored that he is the candidate of a cabal determined to force him on the country as VP if Osibanjo becomes president if ailing Buhari ever gets incapacitated.  Already, it is clear, and perhaps ...

Nigeria's looming Bankruptcy Crises (1)

By Terhemba Osuji  Well the Minister of finance (I am always mesmerized by her accent, please don't tell her) has finally confirmed that Nigeria is broke and the country can no longer borrow to finance its deficit spending on salaries and other miscellaneous items.  She also hinted that it is time to explore new ways of taxing areas of the economy that have been dodging taxation to fill the shortfall in revenue.  In signaling a shift towards exploring new tax revenue, the minister seemed to overlook the fact that:  1. The legitimate tax base has been under assault by this administration through its rash forex rationing policies and many companies and airlines have fled, all the indices of production are down, basically this administration is facing a terribly depleting tax base that will shrink further by more taxation. 2. Though growing steadily, only a sliver of economic activities are conducted by credit or by charge, most of the daily economic activity in the cou...

Reverse Discrimination & Poor Trade Policies

During the grand days of Nigerian vigilantism and flexing of its emergent power as a major player in the world crude oil market the Obasanjo regime nationalized BP  in part because of britains decision to allow BP to sell crude to South Africa. In 1997 after Britain cited security reasons for banning Nigerian flights into Britain the government of abacha/Abubakar retaliated by banning British flights into Nigeria as well. There have been several other incidents of muscle flexing by Nigeria to warn the world that it would not be manhandled and that it had equally debilitating sanctions of its own to obtain fair trade with its international partners. Besides the radical move of seizing BP in 1979, Nigeria has seen its power and respect erode due to self inflicted wounds and a rudderless trade and foreign policy. Secondly, Due to religious inclinations of its new leaders Nigeria has pursued inconsistent and confusing trade policies placing itself at a severe disadvantage. In 2016, the...
